Services for Women

Old Brewery Mission MontrealThe phenomenon of homelessness is not unique to men.  Homeless women come from varying language, ethnic and social groups with most having suffered severe economic setbacks.  Women make up approximately 30% of the homeless population and they have an average age of 40.

  • 90% have been abandoned by their families
  • 85% have mental health issues
  • 80% have experienced physical and/or sexual violence
  • 70% are mothers
  • 70% have drug related or other dependencies

The Old Brewery Mission has developed its Services for Women division designed to respond to the specific needs of the staggering number of homeless women in Montreal.

The Patricia Mackenzie Pavilion has been specifically designed to meet the needs of homeless women.

More than just responding to the basic needs of housing, food and clothing all provided in a welcoming and secure environment, each woman, if she chooses, is able to take advantage of a variety of services offered on an individual basis.  Counsellors guide the women towards the services that they need and help them as they go along.  Services, while almost identical to those offered men, have been tailored to meet the particular needs of women.
