Maison Claude-Laramée
Maison Claude-Laramée is dedicated to preventing homelessness among both men and women suffering from mental health problems and substance abuse. This innovative centre is run in conjunction with the Douglas Hospital and is the first of its kind in Quebec.
Capitalizing on each organization’s area of expertise, Maison Claude-Laramée creates a stable and supportive environment where up to nine individuals at a time can plan their futures. Residents of Maison Claude-Laramée actively participate in recreational activities, such as sports, art projects and gardening. They also attend occupational and educational workshops designed to help them find a stable job and better prepare for life outside the centre.
While the Douglas Hospital provides the funding and the clinical psychiatric support, the Old Brewery Mission’s staff is responsible for running the centre on a day-to-day basis, as well as the social integration aspect of the program. With the rise in the number of clients suffering from mental health problems and the
decrease in space in psychiatric facilities, this partnership is an important and essential first step in our battle to reduce homelessness.
